The soft folds of fabric from a roman blinds bring warmth to a home. Let me show you how to install them.
Find the brackets that were delivered with your blinds. They look something like this.

Recess Fit:

For a recess fit, you typically screw them here at the front of the frame.

One bracket on each end, 2cm in from the edge and the remaining evenly spread across the top of the window frame.

Face Fit:

For a face fit, you can screw them here, to the front of the architrave. Again, one bracket on either side 2 cm in from the edge and the remaining brackets spaced evenly across the architrave.

Face Fit Above the Window:

And the third option is to mount the blinds above the window from so these folds of fabric cover as little of the window as possible.

QUICK TIP:

These folds are approximately 30cm, so make sure you add that at the time of ordering.

Where possible, it is best to screw into the timber studs which are behind this plaster wall. On nearly all doors and windows, there is a timber stud that runs vertically either side of the window frame.

If you can’t find the studs in between, that’s ok, just make sure you use good quality anchors like these that are the right weight rating for the job. (Your local hard ware can recommend the right anchors for your wall).

Slot the front edge of the blinds in like so, roll the blind back and click each bracket into place. You can check it’s in securely by checking the bottoms are clipped in.

QUICK TIP:

If you ever need to remove your blinds, just lift the blind as so, and push back the clip to remove.

Now check the blinds operation.

Fitting the safety device:

Next we fit the child safety device. Fitting the safety device is extremely simple, but one of the most important parts of the job.

First, click the guide over the chain. Raise it a few centimetres above the length of the chain so that it will freely move when you want to use the blind. And double check it doesn’t for a loop of 22cm or greater.

View Australian regulations for safety devices on blinds here.

Always screw the safety device into a firm surface like this timber window frame using the screws provided. Never screw into soft surfaces, such as plaster walls as the safety device will too easily pull out.

Give it another test and you’re done.
